Aboyne Loch Caravan Park.

Set on the banks of its namesake loch in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, Aboyne Loch Caravan Park is a much-loved holiday destination where guests come to slow down and enjoy the scenery.

But as more of those guests arrived in electric vehicles, a problem was quietly brewing.

The business.

Aboyne Loch welcomes a loyal mix of seasonal caravan owners and touring visitors, drawn by the loch, the golf course next door, and easy access to the Cairngorms.

Like many rural leisure destinations, the park has seen EV numbers climb steadily. Guests increasingly expect to be able to charge during their stay.

And if they can't do it properly, they'll find another way.

The problem.

That "another way" was the issue.

With no dedicated charging on site, EV drivers had started plugging into the electric hook-up sockets at their pitches. That created two serious problems:

Free electricity. Pitch hook-ups are included in the stay, so every EV charged this way was electricity given away at the park's expense with no way to meter or recover the cost.

Fire risk. Hook-up sockets and domestic-style connections simply aren't designed for the sustained, high current draw of EV charging. Every improvised charge was a safety risk the park couldn't ignore.

The Park owner knew a polite notice asking guests not to charge wasn't a solution. Guests needed a proper alternative. Something genuinely fit for purpose, effortless for drivers, and with a simple way to charge a fair fee to those who wanted a charge.

What would EV charging look like if it were safe, simple, and paid for itself?

The Voqa solution.

For Guests: Plug in, tap a bank card, done. No apps to download from a patchy rural signal, no accounts, no RFID cards. Charging that's as straightforward as paying for a coffee.

For Aboyne Loch Caravan Park: A safe, dedicated charging point that takes EVs off the pitch hook-ups for good. Drivers pay for exactly what they use at a price the park controls, turning a hidden cost and a safety worry into a revenue stream and a valued guest amenity.

Voqa handles the back office, payments and driver support.
